Measuring for a Surround Mantel

Measuring for a Surround Mantel

  • Measure the facing material from the outside to outside whether it is marble, tile, stone, or brick. There is a section on the order form to specify what return should be used. Please circle the proper word indicating the correct return depth for that fireplace (Tile Return or Brick Return). Indicate the measurement on line A for inside width.
  • Measure the facing material from the top of the hearth to the top of the facing material and indicate that measurement on line B for inside height.
  • Measure the depth of the facing material. To take this measurement, butt a tape measure against the drywall and measure out to the front of the facing material at its furthest measurement. Indicate this at the bottom of the order form under Special Instructions.
  • Measure the height of the hearth from the floor to the top of the hearth. Indicate this at the bottom of the form under Special Instructions.
  • Measure the width of the hearth from the outside to outside of the facing material and indicate this at the bottom of the order form under Special Instructions.
  • This should be all that is needed to order a surround mantel. If there are any other measurements that would be helpful, please indicate them at the bottom of the order form under Special Instructions.
  • Keep in mind all things around the fireplace that may hamper the installation of the mantel. Check for windowas being too close, register vents, electrical outlets, and gas shutoff valves. If one of these situations does arise, it may be better to rough sketch the wall on which the mantel will be going. Be sure to include on the sketch all measurements as well as any hampering factors.
  • Remember to complete all the information on the order form. Do not forget to select the type of wood for the mantel.
  • Be sure to put your name (salesperson or contact person) in the contact space in case we have any questions about the order.
